Meet Lauren

Hello and welcome to my website! I'm so glad you're here. Let me share a little bit about myself and my passion for education.

My Educational Journey

My love for teaching began at the University of Kentucky, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Eager to dive deeper into the world of teaching, I pursued a master's degree in Curriculum and Teacher Education from the University of Oregon. I then achieved my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston, focusing on literacy practices and research that make a real difference in the classroom.

What Drives Me

Creating engaging, research-based resources for teachers and students is my true calling. I strive to develop products that:

  • Delight and engage students
  • Save valuable prep time for teachers
  • Align with the latest educational research
  • Enhance student participation and learning

Seeing students excited about learning and helping teachers spend more quality time with their students and LESS time prepping materials is what it's all about for me.

My Family

I'm lucky to share my life with my amazing husband, who I've known since childhood, and our two wonderful children. We live in Washington, DC, a city filled with endless educational resources and inspiration. When I'm not working I'm enjoying time with my family!

My Work

Here are a few of my publications that reflect my passion for education:

  • Supporting Teachers’ Capacity to Explain and to Implement the Process of Digital Storytelling with Elementary Writers (Ely, L. & Hutchison, L.), published in Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education.
  • Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education: Framing Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice Education in a Local to Global Context (Ely, L. in White, C. (editor and co-author)), published by Information Age Press, Charlotte, NC.
  • Examining Our Roles of Literacy Sponsorship for Students’ Equitable Book Access (Jerasa, S., Ely, L. & Hutchison, L.), published by English Journal.
  • The Impact of Lexical Specificity Training on At-Risk Emergent Bilinguals (Li, M., Snow, C. E., Ely, L., Frijters, J. C., Geva, E., & Chen, B. X.), published in Applied Psycholinguistics.
